Hawkes Bay Getaway

The Hawkes Bay area is known as wine country and has dozens of vineyards peppered along the coastal flats and up into the hills. We stayed in a bed & breakfast on a small farm at the peak of the foothills overlooking the valley and bay. We had fun with the farm animals and made friends with the goats, pigs, sheep, and of course the dogs.

Our time was spent relaxing and rejuvenating for the next leg of our trek. We had a splendid lunch and tasting at Kim Crawford winery on the water and had dinner at a wonderful little Laotian restaurant. In between we were able to find our way out to the beach for an afternoon swim. Instead of sand it was little tiny black rocks and had what looked like a gigantic Yucca plant (but not really sure what it was?!?).
