Auckland the City of Sails

We've been in Auckland for a few days and have had a great time so far. Jim and his friends have been excellent hosts.

They had a New Zealand BBQ for us with an incredible variety of local delicacies like seasoned venison sausages, giant grilled calamari, marinaded lamb, green lip mussels, and an array of exquisite desserts including a layered kiwi pavlova. We were also introduced to a local specialty… Vegemite and crackers.

The next day they took us tramping on the beach at beautiful Whatipu and later over to Piha to climb Lion rock. We'd like to thank Jim & co. for being such outstanding hosts and for sharing the some of their favorite tastes and sights of New Zealand with us.

On our last day in Auckland we took the ferry over to Waiheke Island for some wine tasting at the vinyards and picked up some olive oil at the farms. Spent some time at the beach and then wrapped up the day at the restaurants in the Viaduct for a nice meal.

Now, we're off on the next leg of our journey. Here's the list of spots we'll be stopping at over the next couple weeks:
* Coromandel
* Rotorua
* Hawke's Bay
* Wellington
* Christchurch
* Greymouth
* Queenstown
...and lots of stops at little towns in between.

From here, it's not clear when we'll have another internet connection so our next post may not be for a while.

Here are some of the pictures from our time in Auckland and you can see the rest here.

Everything is so green! So lush! And I don't know what's funnier, Kathy driving on the opposite side of the car on the opposite side of the road or that iGod sign. Looks like you're having a great time...let Kathy know I'm keeping the office privy to your every move. Keep on enjoying! And I'll keep cyber-stalking.
